What's My Line - Happy Birthday, Bennett! [CLIPS VIDEO]
A short collection of WML clips acknowledging Bennett Cerf's birthday, just because today (May 25, 2019) marks the 121st anniversary of his birth. He is still loved and missed, not just by fans of WML but by anyone who knows Bennett's historic contributions as a lifelong champion of both literature and the importance of humor in our lives.

These shows are a real treat for Fred Allen fans, since they may never be shown on TV again due to the prominence of the cigarette sponsor, Old Gold. TWO FOR THE MONEY: Guests Fred Allen, Herb Shriner; Walter O'Keefe [host] (Aug 11, 1953)
Переглядів 12 тис.6 років тому
"Walter, I want you to meet Mr. Herb Shriner, who is in television, and Mr. Fred Allen, an unemployed gentleman from Boston." TWO FOR THE MONEY was originally developed by Goodson-Todman for Fred Allen in 1952, but unfortunately, Fred's health prevented him from taking the job. Taking his place as permanent host was Herb Shriner, who was off this week from the show, so taking HIS place was Walt...

Future WML panelist Fred Allen crashes the stage of Jack's 1947 live show at the Roxy Theater in NYC to demand. . . a ticket refund! What's My Line? - LOST EPISODE CLIP! Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis (Jan 24, 1954)
Переглядів 126 тис.6 років тому
Here's the only snippet known to exist from the Jan 24, 1954 episode with Martin and Lewis, probably the single "most wanted" lost episode of WML (along with the Jul 31, 1955 episode with Ty Cobb. I think I'd vote for the 1951 show with Chico, or the Sept 25, 1955 episoe with Jackie Gleason in costume as Ralph Kramden!) This clip comes from the "WML at 25" special aired in 1975; the presumption...

NOTE: This is a repost of an episode that UA-cam inexplicably removed due to "inappropriate content", without even sending a notice when the video was deleted. What could even conceivably have been judged by anyone as inappropriate content in a 1962 episode of What's My Line is anyone's guess, but there's no apparent way to appeal it, so I'm just re-uploading the video. Hopefully this won't get...
Arlene Francis in "ONLY A PART OF LIFE" - Short Film on Epilepsy
Переглядів 17 тис.6 років тому
Arlene Francis devoted a good deal of energy over the years to various causes, one of those dearest to her being epilepsy. Here's but one example This is a short 5 minute film done for the National Epilepsy Foundation in the early 1960s (there's no listing for this at the IMDb). Many thanks to Jason Beard for acquiring this film in the first place and sharing it with me for this channel, and as...
Fred Allen and Groucho Trade Ad Libs! (1952) [AUDIO]
Переглядів 25 тис.6 років тому
There are very few recorded examples of Groucho and Fred Allen performing together in any capacity. Here's 8 minutes of audio of Groucho shooting the breeze with Fred Allen 100% spontaneously after the recording of Fred's pilot for "Two for the Money" (a show which ultimately ended up hosted by Herb Shriner). How many times do you get to hear a recording of two of the greatest ad lib comedians ...

I've Got a Secret - Arlene Francis has the panel's secrets! (Jun 6, 1966)
Four who lived past ninety: Van Johnson, Mary Healy, Arlene Francis and Ramona Deitemeyer.
That poor woman! Bennett just implied that this woman's second cousins would be pigs.
Ginger was absolutely stunning here. 51 years old and a perfect figure
I love this show !!❤
Professional athletes are much more recognized today.
Willie was 23 years old here. I looked up the box score of the game that day. Pittsburgh Pirates vs New York Giants Box Score: July 11, 1954 NY GIANTS 13 PITTSBURG PIRATES 7 MAYS AB 5 RUNS 2 Hits 3 RBI 1 HR Willie Mays (31, off Jake Thies, 4th inn, 0 on, 0 outs to LF)
And Jack and Ernie are driving each other crazy in Heaven. RIP Jack Lemmon and Ernie Kovacs.
I just remember Horst Buchholz as the 7th of the Magnificent Seven. He does seem to have a sense of humor, though. That's always nice. Didn't fool Arlene for a minute!!
The lifeguard was adorable!
I watched that match. He was only going at the most 50%. I thought it was obvious to everyone.
Émilie Chauchoin[1] (French: [ʃoʃwɛ̃]; September 13, 1903 - July 30, 1996), professionally known as Claudette Colbert
Totally agree
Ah, the days when even an intruder on the set was polite and otherwise respectful.
The great Willie square in his prime that would last for over a decade.
Ben Gazzara was a heavy smoker and died before he was 50.
I've known who Crazy was ever since I was very young. I'm 64 now. But, here today on June 24th, 2024 is when I first heard his real voice.
I'm 75 years-old and I remember watching this program on t.v. I was only 5 in 1954, but I have to tip my baseball cap to the late Arlene Francis! She really knew her baseball and knew a great player when she saw one. I cannot imagine what she must have felt when the Giants, (and Willie!) left for the West Coast and San Francisco. Three teams in New York at that time. If Willie Mays had been able to stay in New York he would have become mayor and/or governor.
Garner was a vile Communist who hated the United States.
The mystery guest should have been easy. Heston didn't even try to disguise his voice.
This is my pleasure, my comfort, and I watch over and over. Arlene Francis-I will always love you
Oh, so these are actors. Lame.
Mrs Norma Walter 1928 - 2023.
Hal March tells us his program is now on simulcast(t.v. and radio). Today 2024 it’s also on UA-cam. Next year 2025 is 70 years ago when this episode appeared.
In reading through a number of the posted comments, I was really surprised that no one commented on the rudeness that two of the panelists displayed when the last person came on at the very end, and I'm talking about Mr Singh. Bennett Cerf (maybe he should be called "Smurf") made a comment to Mr. Singh regarding whether his turban was a way to seek profit(s) from others (I am paraphrasing here); and Fred Allen then commented to Mr. Singh that he thought his turban looked like it was muffler that had somehow (presumably, by accident?) ended up on his head (paraphrasing here). These two comments were extremely rude, whether judged by 1950's standards or by today's standards (2024). Now I understand the social context, the social climate of the 1950s, where such comments would be considered acceptable (I was born in 1948). However, what should never change just because the decades change, is believing in human dignity and respect for all of our differences. In other episodes from the 1950s, when rather corpulent people first "stepped onto the stage," there was some jeering and laughing at this person's expense, and it would often continue through the "signing in with your name"; and then usually one or two panelists would make some kind of a joke about the person's weight, which, again, by today's standards, would be considered derogatory and demeaning. (It's a good thing these people aren't living in 2024, because between my telephone and my often rather long and expressive emails, some of the panelists would have a lot of stuff coming at them, in my desiring to "set the record straight," because I do not put up with that kind of nonsense.) As well, the producers and the show's director, collectively, have a moral responsibility with respect to requiring the audience in the studio to be respectful, including ceasing the hooting and whistling and the "cat calls" that were so prominently showcased when (it was usually) a young blonde woman was signing in; or when a "dignified gentleman" with a prominent beard and/or longer-than-usual hair for that time came on stage and then sign in, and some of the audience members would be laughing out loud and clearly behaving in a disrespectful manner! (You don't always have to see people directly to know when there are displays of inappropriate behaviors/manners!) They should have been ashamed of themselves, as respect for others is not tied to any particular decade or any other segment of time.
I like the way Clifton pulls the chair out for people. Wouldn't see that today
I bought a Charles Atlas body building kit.. It took me two weeks to get it out of the box.

His honor, Mr Louis Armstrong, the king. Best what's My line episode hands down.
Love these mystery guests. The panel always has the advantage of knowing the show's producer saved money by booking guests who were already in New York for a premiere of a movie, as is what happened here with McQueen.
5' 10". 170 lbs ... 660 HR's! How did he do it?
Phil Rirruto?
this was almost 70 years ago
Dorothy always had her mask pushed over and on crooked so that her right eye could peek out and see who the secret guest is. Why did they allow that? And clearly, she always had a heads-up as to the lines of the guests, asking so many questions where she clearly already knew the person's line when she started.
After watching a number of these "What's My Line" episodes, I did not enjoy Peter Lawford's performances as a guest panelist. He often seemed lost, awkward, disinterested, out-of-place. He just didn't shine like his colleagues, nor did he seem to fit in with the overall tempo and general light-hardness of this show.
Dorothy looked very good here, those dangly hoop earrings suited her. Also liked Althea's dress but it would look better with the scarf tied loosely going down her back instead of sewn into the back. Or not on it at all. She looked very pretty in it, still, nice shoulders.
Arlene's hat. Oy vey.
Suzy Parker had the brain of the last raisin in the box.
love these shows
Mr. Peanut, so dapper! Straight out of the cast of Giant!
Thank you Peggy Lee for being on What's My Line
